An author tagline is a short catch-phrase usually under or beside an author's name on their website, email signature, and other social media. The tagline gives readers a quick idea of that author's brand or voice. A tagline should communicate the flavor or tone of a writer's stories. To me, it should also hint at the genre and the author's style within that genre.
Creating a good tagline can be a challenge, because it should fit all your stories.
I write erotic romance about dominant male heroes pursuing and claiming their special girls. The stories have different settings, but the sex is always explicit, often edgy, and ultimately there's a romantic ending. My books are meant to be fun, passionate, adult fantasies, and they are pure fiction.
I've thought about the common denominator that connects all of my stories, and I think it's that the heroes usually push the envelope with their sexual dominance. They're hard-lovin' and hardcore but still protective, brave, and well, heroic.
At least that's my goal. :)
In an effort to craft the perfect tagline, I've jumbled together some words that might suit:
-Heroes who never stand down and always stay hard.
-It's all about the passion.
-Heroes that push the edge of dominance.
-Hard-edged passion and sweet surrender.
Some of my writer friends offered suggestions too,
-Alpha heroes with hard bodies, but not hard hearts. (E.S.)
-Dominant heroes with hard bodies and hot hearts. (P. A.K.)
-Alpha heroes with hard bodies and soft hearts. (S. M.)
-Tales of erotic romance--hard action, harder heroes. (T.L.)
Are you noticing a similarity in most of these taglines?
It's the word hard... which is probably a good thing when you're writing about virile, hunky heroes. :))
Here are some clever taglines from some of my favorite authors:
Patricia A. Knight- Calorie-free guilty pleasures you will indulge in again and again.
Eden Bradley- Desire on the Edge.
Elizabeth SaFleur- Where passion simmers, dominance reigns, and love conquers all.
Anne Lange- Check your inhibitions at the door.
Travis Luedke- (Nightlife series) Violent, sexy, and occasionally violently sexy.
Shoshanna Evers- Sexily Evers After.
Shayla Black- The wicked edge of romance.
S.N. McKibben- Dark hearts and Heroes.
Jess Michaels- Erotic. Emotional. Irresistible.
While researching taglines I discovered these great, informative articles:
Stargazer, daydreamer, erotic romance composer, sweeping snow off a cottage near Canadian Rockies.
