Someone asked me, "Why write a novel with a billionaire hero?"
Oooh, good question.
What is it about those billionaires?
At first, I didn’t realize I was going to write a billionaire novel. Now, I've written four!!
(HARD LIMITS the 4th of the Hot Alpha Billionaire Series is available for pre-order now. :)
When I started HARD WEAR, the first book, I just wanted a hero that was out-of-the-ordinary. Someone with enough power to seduce and win the girl in a spectacular way.
So my short answer is … I wrote a man with power.
And a billionaire has megawatt power. He can simply do more in order to win and protect his lady. He’s strong, in control, and he gets things done. He’s the modern day prince—maybe not always charming, but he’s in charge of his kingdom, er, world. Make him an alpha, and a sexual dominant, and I’m wiggling in my writerly seat.
And I’m not the only one who’s hooked on these powerful men in fiction romance. They’ve been popular for a long time. Wealthy lovers have fulfilled romantic and sexual fantasies for centuries. It wasn’t Mr. Darcy the wine merchant (no offense to wine merchants, I love wine) it was Mr. Darcy, worth 10,000 pounds a year and the owner of Pemberley estate, who won romance reader’s hearts. It wasn’t Goatherd Charming (no offense to goats, they’re adorable) it was Prince Charming—a man who would be king.
A billionaire is a hero on steroids. He’s more power--more of everything. He’s a leader and he’s in control. He has options. If he needs a few days, or a few months off to win his girl, he takes it. He does things when and how he desires. Power, if used in the right way, is sexy.
If your hero is a man without limits, his story can be bigger. The adventure can be bigger. A billionaire doesn’t have to worry about details like money. If his girl needs something, he can get if for her. If she has a cause, he can support it. He can take the heroine out to nice places (read: expensive) and after dinner—or a few weeks at an exclusive resort—he pays the check, without a flinch.
Then he tucks his princess into his private plane for a quick ride home. How awesome is that?
Of course, in reality there are heroes every minute in every walk of life, and it has nothing to do with money, but in romantic fiction billionaires are really fun to read.
And yes, I admit it… I think it’s perfectly okay to feel like a princess sometimes. A billionaire can do that for his girl, in a very big way.
Wishing you all happy reading!
